The year was 2002, the location was a Florida dorm room. HostGator’s founder weighs the pros and cons of naming his company HostGator or GatorHost. Only a few months later, HostGator reached their first 100 customers. With customers from technology veterans to people starting their first website, HostGator has become a well known provider of hosting services.
HostGator provides many hosting options for all websites. Starting from small shared hosting plans to dedicated servers, with VPS and cloud hosting in-between. Their Virtual Private Servers offer full root access, are located in a state-of-the-art data center featuring redundant power and HVAC units, and weekly off-site backups. HostGator’s VPS servers come with 2 IP addresses per server, terabytes of monthly bandwidth, and no limit on outgoing emails.
Our mission is as simple as it is aspirational: to bring together technology, people, products, and data to create solutions that (em)Power small business.

It’s easy to say that HostGator is more focused on business and personal websites, and not Internet companies. They provide many tools that the average small business may need, such as web templates and site builders, but companies that are building new technology will not need. HostGator also doesn’t allow much customization and scalability with their VPS and dedicated servers.
